Choose ONE of the following topics from either the French or German Module
Length: 2500 words

1) On French module

Choose 2 film stars from France or any French-speaking country (ie: Canada, Switzerland, Belgium) other than the stars discussed during lectures and tutorials. They could be from different generations, community groups, male or female, or represent different genres.

Task: Compare and contrast the identities and careers of the 2 film stars with specific focus on their socio-political and cultural contexts. Consider themes such as on-screen and off-screen persona, conflation of star’s real life and characters, gender, social class and racial stereotyping, and representation of national identity or specific community.

2) On German Module

a) “Sibel Kekilli: another whore and another Madonna?” Explore in your critical analysis with reference to Head on/Gegen die Wand and When we leave/Die Fremde, as well as Kekilli’s public perception, the following aspects:

Discuss the stardom of the actor or actress in relation to their perceived identity as member of an ethnic minority community. Consider the following aspects:
