2:Management application write an individual report of 2500 words that covers one of the following areas Market Growth Market Position Innovation
Module Title: Hospitality Management Applications Assessment Title: Report Instructions To Students For Submission Of This Coursework Task Details: You are required to write an individual report of 2500 words that covers one of the following areas Market Growth Market Position Innovation Market growth Against the background of the global market and the consolidation of the hotel industry, strategic alliances are becoming increasingly important to smaller companies. These firms often lack the funds for aggressive expansion but need the advantages associated with increased coverage if they are to effectively compete against larger businesses. From your research nominate an appropriate company with whom Galleria could form an alliance explaining the reasoning for your choice and detailing the types of links you feel appropriate. Market position The Galleria group is a good example of the sub-segmentation and niching strategies that can be found in the UK budget hotel sector. The initial attraction of the concept to operators was the maximisation of revenue against lower building and operational costs than those associated with more traditional hotel keeping. The pull of high profit levels drew many companies into the market place and strong competitive rivalry manifested itself relatively quickly with firms choosing to compete via price or facilities. The branded budget sector offers an increasing variety of options to customers ranging from the ‘super budgets’ to the upper tier budgets. This decision will require participants to think carefully about the nature of the Galleria offering and gauge its true impact on productivity and profitability. Such an assessment must be made within the context of the current operating environment. Therefore an analysis of the performance of this sector together with anticipated future trends must be offered as a background to the final recommendations. The budget hotel sector is one of the fastest growing areas of the hotel industry and is thus attracting much interest from operators and investors. Write a report for David Simpson which critically evaluates Galleria’s two star offering in the context of the current market place, including any recommendations for change. Innovation It could be said that innovation is about exploiting change. It requires the tracking of events at all operating levels – that is within the unit, the industry sector and the general environment as a whole. It also requires on the part of the company, an entrepreneurial attitude to opportunity and a tolerance of failure. Innovation is an important strategic element in maintaining any company’s competitive edge. Using your knowledge of the industry, the case itself and predicted trends prepare a proposal whereby an innovative approach can be seen to add value for the customer. Particular instructions to students; This course work is based on the management decisions you have made over the course of the year. These decisions will have been presented via your business model canvas and you will have received formative feedback as your work has progressed. You should use these decisions and the feedback given as the basis from which to develop your response to this task. Think about the context of your work to help you decide on how you would like to approach this assignment. This work requires you to consider the Galleria Group as a whole rather than looking at an individual unit and as such needs a strategic rather than an operational focus. Look carefully at the marking grid so that you understand how your work will be marked. Submission requirements The work is to be submitted to your module tutor in W/C 20th April, the specific date, time and location will be confirmed.
