Order Description

Identity and Madness in Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’, ‘Macbeth’ and ‘King Lear’

Rough word count guidance: Introduction (1500 words), chapter 1 (2400 words), chapter 2 (2400 words), chapter 3 (2400 words), conclusion (500 words).
Please give each chapter a heading – don’t order these by text, but by what issue is being addressed/ what questions are being answered.

Each chapter should be structured like an essay with an introduction, setting out what the chapter will achieve in relation to the overall research question, and a conclusion where this is reiterated in the light of evidence.

Please use a variety of sources, engaging with the key critics in this area. Two books my tutor suggested I start with are: ‘Madness and Drama in the Age of Shakespeare’ by Duncan Salkeld, and ‘Distracted subjects: madness and gender in Shakespeare and Early Modern culture’ by Carol Thomas Neely, please use these as two of the 30 sources. Please no more than 10 internet sources.
