Post carries three assignments
1. Clearly explain the purpose of the 5S and explain how this implementation will be useful in the setting where you are going to apply it.
2. Introduce the specific project and explain the setting
3. Demonstrate and explain each 5S and discuss how they will be/are used for this project
a. Sort Seiri (??)
b. Straighten (orderliness) Seiton (??):
c. Shine (cleanliness) Seiso (??):
d. Standardize (create rules) Seiketsu (??):
e. Sustain (self-discipline) Shitsuke (?):
4. Show before pictures of the project area.
5. Show completed project area pictures and state conclusions or a summary of the benefits or discuss any implementation difficulties. What really distinguishes projects are the clarity, the pictures, and how well the principles of standardize and sustain are incorporated.
2:Architecture,s attention
Share images of architecture that caught your attention in a positive way. Explain what you found admirable about this particular structure. For example:
I find The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine (Links to an external site.) to be a really remarkable building. Because it is being built exactly the same way a cathedral was constructed in the Middle Ages, using stone-on-stone construction–no metal structure to hold the building up–it will take another 100 years to complete. It is the largest cathedral in the United States: twelve stories high and two football fields long. And it’s only seventeen miles away from us. Approximately 2,000 people can fit inside, and in October they perform a service for St. Francis where elephants, llamas, goats, and a jar of cockroaches are walked down the center aisle. Anyone who attends the service is permitted to bring his or her pet. I admire the way the space is utilized to accommodate modern needs, but has maintained its integrity and relationship with past uses of the same type of architecture.
3: Television Culture
President Coolidge equated desire as the crucial element in separating the civilized and the uncivilized (Chapter Nine, pp.7-8):
"The uncivilized make little progress because they have few desires. The inhabitants of our country are stimulated to new wants in all directions. In order to satisfy their constantly increasing desires, they necessarily expand their productive powers. They create more wealth because it is only by that method that they can satisfy their wants. It is this constantly enlarging circle that represents the increasing circle of civilization."
Do you agree or disagree with this definition of civilization? Why or why not? How would you define the advertising horizon?
2 – Marshall McLuhan said, "Advertising is an environmental striptease for a world of abundance." How do you interpret this? Do you recognize your environment as one of advertising?
3 -Discuss George Gerbner’s assertion that television is the culture. What does he mean by this? What is television culture? Martin Esslin noted that Bertolt Brecht advocated the use of drama as a powerful teaching tool to change people’s lives. He observes that "It is ironic that the truest fulfillment of Brecht’s postulates of a didactic drama designed to convert mankind to communism… should have come in the [form of] television commercials of capitalism." What did Esslin mean by this? What are some examples?

What is your response to Bernays’ use of emotional manipulation?
