3:Strategy Description
Strategic consultant to a well-known company which has a diversified business with a presence in different industries and geographical markets. You are asked to focus your strategic analysis on a particular business unit (operating in a particular industry) and make strategic recommendations for its future competitiveness. To this end, you are expected to submit a report which contains the following items:
1. The analysis of the competitiveness of the industry where the business unit is situated by having regard to the European geographical market;
2. The analysis of the strategic positioning of the company within the industry in the specified geographical market;
3. The analysis of the potential strategies that the business unit might pursue in the future;
4. Recommendations on the best strategy for the future competitiveness.
Ensure that the analysis, the critical arguments and conclusions contained in the report are supported by the real contextual evidence.
Coursework format: individual report (see next page).
Word limit: 2,000 (appendices, tables and references are not part of the word limit).
Chosen company: a well-known company well reported in the financial and business press (a public listed company).
Marking criteria:
1. Analysis of the competitiveness of the industry where the business unit is situated (mark: 30%).
2. Analysis of the strategic positioning of the company within the industry in the specified geographical market (mark: 20%).
3. Analysis of the potential strategies that the business unit might pursue in the future (mark: 30%).
4. Recommendations on the best strategy for the future competitiveness (mark: 20%).
In addition, please note, overall structure, presentation and level of research will also be important considerations for each of the marking criteria specified above.
