post has two assignments

RESEARCH PLAN/INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT

Write a memo describing your own research question. Develop a plan for conducting the study: gaining access, sampling plan, interview guide, ethical consideration, transcription and analysis and suggested literature review. Note: For this course, your research memos will be part of the grade for this project. The rational for writing research memos is to tract your thinking as you develop your research plan for the in-depth interview project. (Submit your research memos prior to conducting part two of assignment. Actually your research memos should be submitted for each part of the project as you complete it.
Assignment Description: Part II. Conduct study interview, analyze the data, note interesting findings and make recommendations. Include what went wrong. (Include your research memos from this stage of the project)
Please when you start to write this paper, do part II and for each section that you covered put the header for it such as Memo 1, 2 and so on till you cover each thing instead of doing two separate paper. If you do not get this and you need any further explanation, let me know please.
Overview: Research memos in qualitative research are notes to yourself.* A research memo is one way to track your thinking, your musings, your hypotheses, your questions and your plans. Further, notes about ideas from the literature which inform or don’t inform your research may be addressed. Remember that you are doing one interview; however the assignment requires that you think through the process as if you were conducting a research project. Therefore the following are guidelines to follow to ensure successful completion of your project.
Proposal
• Title
Develop a working title for your interview project. The title may change as you delve into your interview project. The title should get to the core of the project.
The memo should include how you came to the decision for the project. This is the place to explore your subjective and objective reasons for selecting the title. You may add to this section as you progress through the project as you might gain some insights as to your interest/motives.

Memo One
• Introduction
One sentence describing your research intention
• Make sure that your project is realistic? Doable?
• The sentence can be used in your proposal as you discuss your plans
• Indicate type of study (e.g., research approach)
Memo Two should give the rationale/reasons for the selected approach. What are the limitations or merit of the research approach that you selected?

• Conceptual Framework
Two Issues
1) Relationship of study to your experiences and knowledge (Why bother question)
2) Relationship of study to prior theory and research (literature) a) Technical Literature includes research studies, theoretical or
Philosophical papers from professional and or discipline focused
b) Biographies, diaries, documents, manuscripts, records and other
materials
Memo Three
should address your relationship to your own experience and to the literature

• Ethical Issues
1) Considerations
Memo Four should address any ethical concerns regarding your project

• Trustworthiness (Strategies beyond scope of assignment. Information only)
Think about your data that you will collect in terms of threats.
Memo Five
1) Strategies to ensure trustworthiness
a) Credibility
b) Transferability
c) Dependability
d) Confirmability
2) Questions
a) What do you Notice?
b) Why do you Notice what you Notice?
c) How can you interpret what you Notice?

IV. Develop Draft of Interview Schedule
1) Rational for questions and sequence
2) Describe any questions/inquiry based on literature reviewed
Memo Six should describe the interview schedule with questions

V. Researcher/Interviewer In the Field
1) Give thought to how you will present yourself.
2) Materials and equipment needed for interview
3) Roles**
a. Learner (Possibility of getting taught)
Set aside assumptions that you know what participant means when they tell you something. Seek explanations, probe, and new patterns
In personal relationships one facilitates by making assumptions
E.g., Nurses talking to each other assume a shared reality
b. Analytical
Consider relationships, meaning, explanation and novelty
b. Reassuring
In the beginning when interview is scheduled. May view questions as testing. Sensitive to educational level and adjust vocabulary.
Participants may not know, not remember or have no idea and thus reassurance is offered. E.g. this is very helpful……
c. Gratitude
Take time for gratitude and any other informal conversation that seems appropriate. Send notes of appreciation. May raise reassurance and reflection.
d. Reflexivity
Awareness of self in the situation of action and the role in constructing that situation***
e. Subjectivity
In some research, subjectivity is seen as bias and must be controlled
Tract the subjectivity and become aware of perceptions (point of view.)*
Identities such as race, gender, age and physical abilities
Memo Seven should be about your thoughts about the interview process and how you will prepare yourself for this task.
VI. Conduct Interview (Pilot Study) Memo of the experience of the interview including pre and post time periods. Submit taped interview and transcription. Memo Eight should include a description of the interview, your critique of the interview, what worked and what did not
VII. Data Analysis (Discussion of Coding in Class) Memo Nine should be a summary of your findings. Code themes/patterns/concepts. Discussion
