2: Visual Analysis
Order Description
Include a description of how the elements of art are used in the work. Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Value, Space, Time, Form. You do not need to list all of them, but explain the elements you do chose thoroughly. Back them up with detailed description. This might take up several paragraphs.
Example Sentence: All of the blue color are hard edged regular shapes, while the organic shapes have a violet tint.
Analysis:
In this section include a description of the principles of art. Balance, emphasis, unity, variety etc. Again, you do not need to list each principle. Mention the most apparent principles. This might take up several paragraphs.
Example Sentence: The emphasis in the painting is the bright red apple placed exactly in the center of the canvas.
Interpretation:
In this section explain the expressive qualities of the work. What is the artist trying to say? This is not your opinion. What is the mood? Is there symbolism? Metaphors, Message, and Meaning?
This might take up several paragraphs.
Example Sentence: The painting is dreamlike because the artist used soft and misty colors throughout the background.
Judgement:
Objective discussion about the overall merit of the work of art supported with evidence found in the work of art.

Visual Analysis Format:
• Title page is optional. Include name and class time on first page.
• MLA format
• Three pages in length (make sure the third page is over ½ full)
• 1” margins
• Double Spaced
• If you use information you did not know before you start, then cite and include sources use the MLA style.
