research proposal, in 2-3 pages, should provide a bit of background about your topic, present your research questions and your proposed methodology (interviews, surveys, supporting evidence from experts, or some combination of these), address any obstacles you foresee in researching or making your argument, and finally, establish the relevance or importance of your topic to a general, reasonably well-informed audience.
Keep in mind that you will most likely not have a thesis yet, but you should have some idea of the approach you’ll take and again, what questions you’ll address.

Here is a suggestion for structuring your proposal. You might also want to take another look at the sample research proposal we discussed in class on March 10th (the handout).
Paragraph I
Introduction/background about your topic. What will you be discussing? What is it or what is its history? What questions will your research address and/or attempt to answer?

Paragraph II
Methodology/Sources: How will you be conducting your research? What kind of sources will you use? (journal articles, maps, photographs, TED talks or other lectures, NY Times articles, etc…)

Paragraph III
Obstacles: What problems do you anticipate finding sources or making your argument? Is your topic controversial? How will you address this?

Paragraph IV
What’s the “ So What” ? Why should your readers care about your topic? What makes it relevant to a wide range of readers? What are the ramifications of your argument?
