2:Development Plan

PART 1 Targeted CV and Cover Letter. Contributes 50% to the total module mark
The task is to prepare a targeted Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a tailored covering letter for a placement or graduate role that you have chosen. You should justify your choice of placement/role by undertaking background research into different industry sectors/organisations and the types of HR roles available so that you can explain why you have made your choice. Your CV and covering letter should be tailored to the particular placement/role showing how your skills and aspirations make you a suitable candidate. Submit a portfolio of your work as evidence of the process you a have gone through.

You should include the following items in your portfolio: Maximum 1500 words

• A targeted Curriculum Vitae.
• A tailored cover letter demonstrating how your skills and aspirations are relevant to the placement/role chosen.
• In addition include (these documents are outside the word count)
• A personal skills audit critically reflecting on your strengths and weaknesses in relation to the behaviours within the CIPD map, showing how your skills could be applied to the placement/role you are interested in.
• A brief analysis of the industry sector and organisation relevant to the placement /role you have chosen, demonstrating how this sector/organisation is a good match for your skills and aspirations.
• Printed screen showing the position identified.
• Actual job description and/or person specification for your chosen job/placement/graduate role.

PART 2 Skills Analysis and Personal Development Plan contributes 50% of the marks 1500 words
You have been successful in securing the placement/role that you applied for. Your new line manager has asked you to produce a personal development plan for two skill areas where you feel further development would be of benefit. To help your line manager understand the skill areas he/she has asked you to produce a short introduction to your plan explaining the relevance and contribution of each skill area to HR practice. Your introduction should include:
a) An overview of each skill area, demonstrating its importance to HR professional practice, with particular reference to the CIPD map. 400 words.
b) A critical review of each skill area and your own strengths and weaknesses in relation to it, using appropriate models and theories to support your analysis. 700 words.
Your personal development plan should cover a 3 month period and include information about how you can develop your skills in each area. 400 words.
Submission: Monday 13th April 2015

This assignment must be submitted via moodle to the module web page using the Turnitin icon to by 11.55pm on the above deadline.

Please note:
1. All work submitted after the submission deadline without an approved valid reason (see below) will be given a mark of zero. (This is not the same as a non-submission, as a late submission counts as an attempt and a mark of zero may allow you to resit the coursework.).
2. Short deferrals (extensions) of up to three calendar weeks can only be given for genuine “force majeure” and medical reasons, not for bad planning of your time. Please note that theft, loss, or failure to keep a back-up file, are not valid reasons. The short deferral must be applied for on or before the submission date. You can apply for a short deferral by submitting an Examination/ Coursework Deferral Application Form. Application Forms along with the supporting evidence should go to the HROB Undergraduate Reception (Jaguar Reception). For a longer delay in submission a student may apply for a (long) deferral.
Students MUST keep a copy and/or an electronic file of their assignment.

Coursework Submission
Unless instructed otherwise by your module leader, assessed coursework must be submitted by the deadline using the turnitin link on the module web page for this module

Students are required to attempt all assessed aspects of their course at the first opportunity. If you don’t, and you do not have a valid deferral, you will not be allowed a re-sit.

Any student who submits a first piece of work late, without an authorised extension (or deferral) will receive a mark of 0%. However, if you miss a deadline it is still worth submitting a piece of coursework late for a zero mark so that you do not automatically lose any re-sit opportunity.

The electronic version of your assignment may be used to enable checks to be made using anti-plagiarism software and approved plagiarism checking websites.

Course work part 2 will be marked using the HROB Department’s standard template Undergraduate Assignment Assessment Sheet.

The breakdown of the marks will be as follows:-
Nature of the topic(s) 10%
Sets the introduction and plan in the context of the situation, uses appropriate language and tone. Uses relevant headings to capture appropriate information in the Personal development plan.
Literature Review 20%
Evaluation and discussion of relevant theory and models in relation to the skills areas chosen
Analysis & Discussion 40%
Analysis demonstrates critical evaluation of the skills areas and application to own situation. Personal Development Plan contains relevant and appropriate solutions for the skill areas and type of learning needs identified.
Conclusions & Recommendations 20%
Conclusions and recommendations address issues as raised in the introduction. The resulting personal development plan is well constructed and logical.
