The Machinery of Public Policy

For the purposes of this course we are interested in the the role and activity of 5 different sectors in policy making in the US. They are: Congress, the Office of the President, Bureaucracies at Federal, State and Local levels, Special Interest Groups and the Judiciary.

Based on your readings, the video and all of the information from above, answer the following questions:

1. Describe the role of Bureaucracy in the US and your understanding of how this is important for health policy and provide a specific example of one that is relevant to your project topic area.

2. Define the role of Interest Groups in the US and provide a specific example of one that is relevant to your project topic area.

3. Describe the role of the Judiciary and explain how you think it impacts health policy in the US.

Remember to incorporate ideas about gender, race and class in your responses.
