Case Study #1: Nutrition
Please develop the following case study and submit to the course instructor.
Mrs. Smith, mother of 5-month old Elizabeth, has noted a change in her eating pattern. Recently she has begun to require extra nursings in addition to the 8-12 breast-feedings she was already having. Her birth weight was 7.3 lb. Her weight today is 15.5 lb. Her elimination patterns are entirely normal. She has begun to awaken one additional time during the night to breastfeed. Mrs. Smith feels that Elizabeth may be ready for solid foods.
1. What demands do the rapid growth of infancy place on nutritional requirements?
2. List the importnat points to consider when evaluating an infant’s readiness for solid foods.
3. What is the traditional age guideline for the introduction of solid foods? What is the rationale?
You note at today’s visit that Elizabeth is able to sit with support, will intentionally mouth a toy, and has doubled her birth weight.
4. What do you recommend to Elizabeth’s mother regarding the introduction of solid foods?
5. If appropriate to introduce solid foods, what guidelines would you give Mrs. Smith regarding the introduction of solid foods?

Mrs. Smith fears the same will happen to Elizabeth. She wants to know whether to give her a vitamin supplement. They live in a town with fluoridated water and
do not receive fluoride supplementation.
6. What advice would you give Mrs. Smith at this time regarding vitamin and mineral supplementation?
7. What would you advise regarding fluoride supplementation?
2:Letter of Inquiry/Grant Proposal Letter
Order Description
Write a letter of inquiry for a real or hypothetical program that you are trying to obtain support for. This should include a brief introduction of who you are, what you are proposing to do, and how much money you are requesting. This should be followed by a description of the project. This should be 500 to 1000 words in length.
Letter to propose a program that addresses a societal issue related to aging. This assignment will require creativity on your part. Think about a real world solution to an issue that older people face. This assignment can be based on a completely hypothetical program, or based on an existing program.
You do not need to actually implement this idea – but it should be feasible within the budget you propose. The budget is just your best guess based on the equipment and staff needed. Generally, the facility you use already exists – most grants fund nonprofit organizations that already have the staff and facilities, but need money to cover the extra staff time required to implement the project and any key equipment required.
The idea for this written assignment is to propose a program that addresses a societal issue related to aging, and request funding from an organization which will help solve the issue.
The agency I am selecting to ask for my grant proposal/letter of intent is:
SCAN Foundation
Your paper should follow the format of a letter (sample letters attached) and cover the following details:
Chose a funding agency
Clearly describe the idea
Describe how much money you are requesting
Describe the context for the issue you are solving
Describe the population served
Describe how replicable the project may be
