Prompt: Talk about subject or topic that interests you, and why it interests you. This subject does not
necessarily have to be related to academia (but it should be class­appropriate). In choosing your topic,
think about how you choose to spend your free time. What do you know a lot about? What are you curious
about? You could write about your chosen major/field of study, a particular sport or sports team, your
favorite book, favorite actor, city/place you’ve lived in, etc.
Requirements: Your paper should be at least 2 full pages in length, “full” meaning to the very end of the
page. It should follow standard MLA formatting guidelines (see syllabus for more information). No outside
sources are needed, so you will not include citations.
Use the first person point of view (“I”)ÕÉ?†?†. Should have one clearly identified subject/topic and an
explanation of why that subject/topic interests you. Your essay should be organized in a coherent way, with
an introduction, body, and conclusion.
Grading:
20 pts: Basic paper requirements and use of English conventions
20 pts: Clearly identified subject/topic
20 pts: Effective organization/structure
40 pts: Explanation of interest (“why”)
100 total points possible
