There will also be one five-hundred word book reviews. It is on Drew Gilpin Faust piece James Henry Hammond and the Old South. You should not need any outside sources for this assignment, but be sure to cite any and all information from all sources including the book. In the review, discuss the main themes of the book and what this book says about the south.

2. Capital investment analysis

Bramer Corporation’s controller, Mara, was asked to prepare a capital investment analysis for a robot-guided aluminum window machine. This machine would automate the entire window-casing manufacturing line. Mara has just returned from an international seminar on qualitative inputs into the capital investment decision and the value chain. She is eager to incorporate these new ideas into the analysis. In addition to the normal net present value analysis (which produced a significant negative result), Mara factored in figures for customer satisfaction, scrap reduction, reduced inventory needs, and reputation for quality.

With the additional information included, the analysis produced a positive result for the investment. Do you think these other factors should be included in Mara’s analysis? Elaborate on why or why not.

1. From the video, identify at least five (5) lean initiatives that Alaska Airlines incorporated to improve productivity and cut down waste in its system. Briefly explain each initiative. Three or four sentences for each initiative is enough.

2. Based on the Lean / JIT / TPS principles discussed in Chapter 16, identify an initiative (not discussed in the video) that Alaska Airlines could possibly implement to further cut down waste in the system. Explain the initiative and discuss which principle/principles it is based on.
