  1. Problem Statement(Estefania)

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, millions of older adults over the age of 65 fall every year. Falls are the second leading cause of accidental or unintentional injury deaths worldwide(Falls). Additionally, one out of every four American fall each year, and led to about $50 billion related costs in 2015(Bergen et al.). Based on these facts, there is a clear need to reduce these number, being through reduction in falls or fall related complications means. Currently, one of the most common intervention methods to reduce fall related deaths, are elderly monitoring devices and providing easy access for elderly people to contact emergency services. However, even though these devices’ purpose of aiding people in contacting emergency services faster, most of the time these devices are either missing key features or overall too technologically advanced for intended users.

  1. Background Research(Estefania)- Describe the current system, how it works, current UI’s, etc, include pictures as appropriate
  2. Problem Description(Mohammad)- describe current system deficiencies, what motivates your proposal for a new system

  1. GDTA (Estefania)
    1. Develop a GDTA for your system. Be sure to include goals, subgoals, decisions and information. An annotated diagram similar to examples in the text is required
  2. UI SPECS(Mohammad)
    • . New system- describe your new modified system to solve the problem stated in 1 above/ This section should be a system design using powerpoint to show the various display interfaces. Be sure to clearly indicate the level of each display (showing tabs to navigate to other displays). Include considerations of the following factors as appropriate.
  3. Interviews:(Mohammad) provide a list of questions you would ask the potential users and subject matter experts
  4. PERSONAS and SCENARIOS
    • . Develop profiles of potential users and operational scenarios
  5. Demons
    • . How you deal with the “demons” (the ones applicable to your system) described on Chapter 3 of the text?
      1. User Interface (UI) Design
      2. Human Factors principles and design guidelines (see page 49 for resources)
  • Visual, auditory, tactile information
  1. Buttons, knobs, keyboards, continuous control devices
  1. PROTOTYPE(aziz1)
    • . Prototype development – how would you incorporate modeling – physical layout; workload issues; man-loading, training, personnel issues; human information processing issues?

  1. ALARMS -(aziz1)
    1. Describe where and how you have incorporated alarms and system diagnostics into your system design.
    2. What parts of your system have been automated and what protections have you incorporated for the user against malfunctions?
  2. Measures of SA (Chapter 14)(aziz1)
    • . What indirect measures of SA are appropriate for your system?
  1. Describe the specific direct measures of effectiveness you would use to evaluate your system (e.g., SART, SWORD, SARS for subjective measures and SAGAT for objective measures).

  1. Test and Evaluation (aziz1)
    1. How would you design a field test to evaluate the effectiveness of your system?
