“op-ed” piece

You will write an argumentative essay that disagrees with a recently published “op-ed” piece: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/23/opinion/covington-twitter.html.

Please remember to express the main idea of your paper in a clear and explicit thesis statement. While you may find yourself responding to the editorial that does so, please do not use first person and avoid expressing subjective opinion, unless you support that opinion with convincing arguments backed by logic and evidence. The best argumentative papers will analyze (and undermine) the argument presented in the editorial and also express a position on the issue at hand.

Other Technical Requirements:

l  This paper must be FOUR pages long (1000 words).

l  You MUST cite directly from the editorial you disagree with and at least one other reputable source, using MLA format for parenthetical citations. To be clear, you must have at least two sources minimum. Use quotations as evidence in support of your argument. ( cite 2 sources in MLA style, one of the sources is the given website, and you need to find another reputable source by yourself)

l  You must include a works cited page according to proper MLA format. Check MLA format for free at: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/ 747/01/

l  Your paper must be in double-spaced, 12-point, Times New Roman font.

l  Your paper must include a heading, title, and page numbers (formats will be discussed in class).
