Financial Information for Business Decisions for Glaxosmithkline
Task Brief 2

Module Title: Financial Information for Business Decisions

The exam will be two hours long.

There will be two sections in the exam.
I choose the comapny called “Glaxosmithkline”.

Section 1 of the exam: Corporate Social Responsibility

The first section will include one pre-seen question about Corporate Social
Responsibility. The question will require you to focus upon one specific company.
You are not allowed to choose your company for the exam. Your tutor will tell you the company that you have been allocated. I have checked personally all the companies that we are asking students to write about and I am of the opinion that every company that you might be are asked to write about gives you the opportunity to create a very strong answer.

There will be no other questions set in Section 1.

The first section will account for 67% of the total examination marks.

Note: the pre-seen question has 6 specific components to it (a), (b), (c), (d), (e) and (f). Students need to prepare to answer each component of the question in the exam. There are no specific weightings attributed to any part of the question – so if you get a little worried trying to work out what to include and what not to include just remember this:

• make sure you demonstrate to the marker that you have attempted each section;
• concentrate upon what the key issues are (and be confident to ignore other issues);
• don’t engage in lengthy sections of description at the expense of
• demonstrating your ability to write in a fluent critical style

The question paraphrases, or perhaps reduces, to “spend 80 minutes writing in a
way that demonstrates to the marker that you are able to carry a sustained critical
argument about CSR and CSR reporting (using a variety of academic frameworks,
ideas and references ) that are robustly linked to an interesting case study
company.”

All students are advised to practice writing out their answers prior to the exam.

Section 2 of the exam: The Audited Annual Report and Accounts & Corporate Governance

The second section of the exam will include a variety of short form questions.

There will be two sets of short form answer questions but you only have to answer one set of questions in Section 2.

One set of questions will be based upon Lecture 5 and Seminar 5 entitled:
The audited Annual Report and Accounts

The other set of questions will be based upon Lecture 6 and Seminar 6 entitled:
The Role of The Annual Reports and Accounts within Corporate Governance

If you thoroughly revise all the Lecture 5 and Seminar 5 material – you will be
guaranteed of being able to fully answer this section (as you only have to answer
one set of questions). Likewise, if you thoroughly revise all the Lecture 6 and Seminar 6 material – you will be guaranteed of being able to fully answer this section (as you only have to answer one set of questions).

The second section will account for 33% of the total examination marks.

Feedback & Feed-forward Strategy for the Module and how students can access their Feedback

There are “feedforward” sessions embedded in the coursework seminars.

Full summative feedback will be given on the coursework.

Dialogic discussion in the CSR sessions will provide formative feedback regarding your ideas surrounding CSR.
