Description of the task:

  • Select a topic from the list below
  • Research your topic using a wide variety of sources: ancient and modern, primary and secondary, written and archaeological, books, documentaries, and websites

 

  • Consider using the scaffolds that will be prepared and uploaded on to Moodle to structure and organise the various stages of the research process

 

  • Write a formal essay in response to the question. Recommended word length is approximately 1000 – 1500 words

 

  • Submit a summary of your essay to be copied for the class. This MUST use a graphic organiser e.g. a mind map, table, Venn diagram, fishbone etc. and should be submitted on ONE A4 sheet of paper.

 

  • Provide a full correctly set out bibliography (you may use the library guide).

1      Assess the views of ancient and modern sources on Xerxes’ succession.

2      Assess the effectiveness of Xerxes’ administration of his empire.

3      Assess the effectiveness of Xerxes’ foreign policy.

4      Assess the significance of the various images and representations of Xerxes as king.

7      Assess the contribution of one modern scholar’s view of Xerxes to an understanding of his reign.
