Answer one question.
Answers will be short, so restrict your introduction and conclusion to one or two sentences.
-Use the authors? initials (DS) rather than naming them.
-Ground your answers in course readings, films, lectures, etc. Be sure to cite sources.
-Bibliographies/lists of works cited are NOT necessarily for this exam, unless you are quoting/citing a source other than those listed in the syllabus. When citing a source, employ the author?s initials and the relevant page numbers in parentheses. For instance, (JN 132) for page 132 of ??Panthers or Thieves?: Racialized Knowledge and the Regulation of Africville.? Be sure to cite sources even when you?re not directly quoting from the text.
-List your name, the appropriate course #, exam #, and question # at the top of the page.

Reminder ? papers are not accepted by email. Bring printed copies with you to the exam.
***Exams are meant to be both a form of evaluation and an opportunity to deepen your reading of course texts and your engagement with course themes. They should be seen as part of a learning process building on work in- and out-of-class.***
Respond to one of the following questions. Your answer should be approximately 2? pages (typed, double-spaced, no extra space between paragraphs).

1) Compare and contrast analyses of Africville by Tina Loo and Jennifer Nelson. Do they disagree? What advantages and/or disadvantages do you see with the approach taken by each?

2) Can we consider the history of Africville as part of a larger story about race and property in the 20th century? Explain, being sure to discuss Loo, Nelson, and at least two other class sources.
