Week 4 Assignment – Website Recommendation Blog

Click the “Week 4 Assignment” link in the top left corner to enter the Website Recommendation Blog.

Part 1: After completing this week’s reading assignment (particularly chapter 32), select a human-caused environmental issue (for example, climate change, species extinction, etc.) and research it further. Find a reliable, useful website that discusses the human impacts to the environment caused by this issue. No duplicate websites are permitted. [NOTE: Neither open resources nor open blogs can be used as sources of information; see ‘Researching Information’ within the class for more information on appropriate credible/reliable sources of information].

Share the website with the class by writing a full paragraph summary (150 words minimum) of what you have learned or have found particularly helpful when reviewing the website. Do not copy and paste directly from the website. This blog should be written in your own words. Also, include a link to the website (type the title, highlight it, then, click on the link icon to add the URL) so that your peers may also view it and benefit from the website you have discovered.

Part 2: Peruse some of the Blog entries made by your fellow classmates. Choose at least one that you found useful and comment on how the website helped you with your understanding. The comment should be 100 words minimum.
For Part 2 – posting the Blog Response Post to a fellow classmate, click the “Week 4 Assignment – Website Recommendation Blog” when you are in the Week 4 Assignment folder. The screen will refresh and on the right side will be a black bar with “Blog details” on it and below that will be your name and an down arrow. Click the arrow and all the people who have posted blog posts will be listed. Read through the post by selecting the fellow student’s name and the screen will refresh – scroll to bottom and on the bottom left will be the student’s blog post. When ready to respond, click “Comment” at the end of the blog post and then a space will open below the blog post you are responding to. When done with the response blog post, click “Add”. Then the response blog post is posted.

Deforestation New
Posted by Elmida Velasquez at Thursday, June 23, 2016 10:27:55 PM

Deforestation, is a human-caused environmental issue that has caused a huge impact to the environment by increased greenhouse gas emissions, Disruption of water cycle, increased soil erosion, disrupted livelihoods, impacted loss of species and places and it is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses. I chose the website: Worldwildlife.org(http://www.worldwildlife.org/threats/deforestation) because it illustrates in detail the cause and effect that Deforestation is causing worldwide in general. What I have found particularly helpful when reviewing the website is how they broken down Deforestation in 6 sections which consist of: overview, causes, impacts, what WWF is doing, how you can help, and how to even adopt an Orangutan! Since these apes are disappearing quickly due to logging and deliberate burning to make way for agriculture and palm oil plantations in Asia. It explains how WWF has been working to protect forests for more than 50 years. With a focus on protected areas management and sustainable forestry, with governments, companies, communities and other stakeholders to promote certification for responsible forest management practices, combat illegal logging, reform trade policies and protect forested areas.
