Assignment title:
Managing people consultancy report for The Bean
Assignment brief
In your assignment you should read the following scenario and complete the task the business owners have set for you at the end.
Scenario
Adam and Layla set up their independent coffee shop ‘The Bean’ in Norwich in 2016. Their mission was to focus on home roasted artisan coffee served in a relaxed, informal environment with a range of local artisan bread and pastries. The business grew rapidly and the couple soon decided to expand the concept and by 2019 they had 8 outlets requiring over 20 full-time and 20 part-time staff.
Adam and Layla realised they were on to a winning formula and have ambitions to expand to other cities in the region and perhaps nationally. They were advised that before expanding any further they would need to consider their organisational structure and the way that they manage their human resources including recruitment, performance management and staff development. The café sector is labour intensive, and Adam & Layla find that most of their staff are Gen Z, plus some millennials at management level. One of the keys to success will be the building of a committed workforce.
Adam and Layla have limited knowledge of human resource planning. To-date they have managed to staff the organisation on an informal ad hoc way, using family, friends and word of mouth. They realise that this will not be practical once they expand. You have been recruited as an external consultant to advise ‘The Bean’ on these matters, with specific responsibility for putting together a Human Resource Plan in readiness for future expansion.
Task
You are required to produce a report that will explain to the owners the importance of the human resources function. You should focus on human resource planning, employee reward, employee development and performance management.
You should write a report of 2,500 words.
Report format should include:
Title page
Contents page (include page numbers and insert page numbers on each page)
Introduction
Main body (made up of key sections and sub sections. Sections should be numbered)
Conclusion
