Reflective Clinical Journal Entry

Complete ONE reflective clinical journal entry for each clinical day

Guidelines:
1. Identify the clinical experience and describe the events noting the 4 areas of Correctional Nursing: Intake, Chronic Care, Medication Administration, and Episodic Care/Sick Call.
2. Based on your knowledge of the core functions and essential services of public health nursing and/or community based nursing, what did you observe to be the role of the RN and/or other personnel involved in this clinical experience/event?
3. What was positive about this experience?
4. What concerns can you identify about this experience?
5. How will today’s experience enhance your knowledge base?
6. Research this week’s topic (see weekly topics below) and its application to correctional nursing. Write a reflection paper (minimum of 2 pages) incorporating your research and your reflection on the topic.
7. A copy of a scholarly article must accompany each entry.
8. APA format will be used, including a Reference Page and Title Page, as well as citation(s) within the paper.
9. In addition to accompanying your weekly entry, also bring a copy of one of your scholarly articles to clinical to give to me and have available to discuss in pre/post conference as time permits.

Reflective thinking involves thinking back over what has happened during your clinical experience for the purpose of growth and improvement. Some goals of reflective thinking include: discovering meaning, making connections between clinical experiences and classroom content, gain an understanding of others perspectives and roles, develop a deeper understanding of what is involved in critical thinking in the clinical setting, and evaluate and correct your thinking as needed.
