LAB #11

Start writing your discussion

In this lab, you will start working on a VERY ROUGH draft ofyour Discussion. Note that you will receive feedback from Dr. Güney regarding your results during your presentations; therefore you are not expected to have a full discussion section for this lab’s assignment – just a rough draft!

Here are some guidelines:

Discussion section is where you interpret your findings. The general structure of a discussion section is as follows:It begins with a short summary of your findings, and the implication of those findings. Then goes on to talk about the limitations in your research, and moves on to future directions for research.

More specifically, a discussion section begins with a statement of support or no support for the hypotheses, followed by the implications of this research. The implications should include real world implications and how your current work fit into the existing body of research on the topic. This should be followed by a discussion of the limitations of the current research. In your final research report, do not just list the limitations. Explain why you think something is a limitation as well. Future directions are ideas for future studies that could expand on the findings in your current research. The discussion section typically ends with a short paragraph on the importance or relevance of the current work.

So, in short, your assignment will be graded on the basis of the following:

  1. A brief interpretation of your results and implications of those findings (60 points)
  2. A brief critique of your methodology identifying the limitations of your research (30 points)
  3. Some potential follow-up ideas/future directions (10 points)
