Week 7 – Statistics in the Health Information Management (HIM) Department
W7-Stats Exercise
Complete each of the following questions in an Excel file and submit to Blackboard for grading along with a Microsoft Word file.
Please upload 2 documents for each this assignment, 1 Word, and 1 Excel.

Questions
1. As the HIM director of a small community hospital, you are required to prepare a budget for the department and submit to your executive management team. As part of the budget, the evaluation of salaries is part of the analysis. Three employees are eligible for pay raises during the next fiscal year, which is the calendar year for this organization. Your CFO has informed you that your allotted budget should not exceed 6% of the original base salaries for these 3 employees.
Complete the table for the following employees and proposed pay raises for each percentage based on the following data. Also, answer the question, do the proposed increases meet/exceed the 6% allowed by your CFO? Please explain.
Please show your work in the cell to evaluate the calculations and result.
1. The Coder/Analyst I is getting a 5% raise at the beginning of the calendar/fiscal year.
2. The ROI Specialist/Analyst II is getting a 4% raise at the beginning of the calendar/fiscal year.
3. The Coding Compliance Specialist/Analyst III is getting 2.5% a raise at the beginning of the calendar/fiscal year.
1A: Does your proposed increase meet/exceed the 6% allowed by your CFO? Please explain.
Calculations are based on:
• 40 hour work week (2080 hours in a year).
• Reminder: 52 weeks in a year
Position or Title Current Base Yearly Salary Proposed Raise New Base Yearly Salary
Coder/Analyst I $24,000
ROI Specialist/Analyst II $26,000
Coding Compliance Specialist/Analyst III $37,000
Total $87,000

2. A full-time coder at Community Hospital who works 40 hours and makes $26.00 an hour. Calculate the following:
A: Weekly salary?
B. Bi-weekly salary?
B: Yearly salary?
C. Total yearly compensation if the base benefit was 25%?

3. As the new HIM Director, you are presented with the following situation that you need to make a decision on. First, you need an FTE inpatient coder and found out that the beginning salary in the area is $27.00/hour and your hospital provide a 22% benefits package for FT employees. Secondly, the hospital is using a temporary service that is charging $7.00/record that is coded and the average weekly records coded are 250 by the current coder.

Calculate the yearly costs of the temporary employee and the FT employee. Then examine which would be the best financial situation for the HIM department and explain your rationale.

W8-Healthcare Statistics Reflections- 1 page
Self-reflection at the end of a course helps students to be self-aware and appreciate how you learn. It also allows students to re-evaluate their learning behaviors and make any modifications for future course, particularly when the subject matter is challenging like healthcare statistics.
In reflecting on the past 7 weeks, what are you most proud of about your collective learning and thinking of healthcare statistics?
What areas of healthcare statistics do you still struggle with? Would you like assistance this last week from your peers and/or the professor? Please explain.
How can you continue your learning of healthcare statistics as a future HIM professional?
Your discussions will be evaluated based on the course requirements outlined in the grading rubric.
