Learning Activity 1:
It is important to know what the FAR is and where to find
definitions of words and terms used in the FAR. Here’s a good example:
please look at FAR 2.101, and look up the definition of “acquisition”?
How about the definition of “supply”? We probably think we know the
answer, but be sure to look it up and provide the FAR definition in your
own words.. Most definitions used in the FAR can be found in FAR 2.101.
Learning Activity 2:
Now, apply this ‘Understanding the FAR’ knowledge by going to
FAR 2.101 and read the definition of Simplified Acquisition Threshold
(SAT). How would you interpret the FAR definition to purchase office
supplies. What other products would this definition apply to?
Learning Activity 3: Differences between federal and commercial contracting.
There are significant differences between federal and commercial
contracting. Government contracting is its own world and offers
significant business opportunities to small and large businesses.
Remember that we are using taxpayer dollars.
Try not to repeat and see if each of you can each come op
with one or two differences that contracting with the government
requires that is different from commercial contracting.
Learning Activity 4:
The contracting life cycle has a few distinct stages:
Planning of the Acquisition- BuyerProposal planning and development- SellerNegotiation and Contract Award- BothContract Performance- Both
What ethical issues might arise for either side during different phases of the contracting life cycle?
Does the FAR provide any guidelines on ‘Ethics’?
Read FAR 3.1101 and FAR 3.502 for some guidance. You may also want
