Visual Phenomena

The post has two asighnments

1:seeing is believing

Michael Bach, a vision scientist and professor of neurophysics? at the University of Freiburg Eye Hospital in Freiburg, Germany, says that an illusion is "a mismatch between the immediate visual impression and the actual properties of the object." Everything that enters the senses needs to be interpreted through the brain, and these interpretations occasionally go wrong.

Explore several (at least ten to twenty) of the 130 visual illusions on Dr. Bach’s website:

Visual Phenomena & Optical Illusions

Write a paper (minimum of 1-2 pages) in which you answer the following questions:

What surprised you most about the visual illusions? Which was your favorite, and why?
How does your reading this week connect with your understanding of the visual illusions you viewed? Be sure to make reference to the reading (including at least one APA-formatted in-text citation)
How does an understanding of optical illusions and/or sensory processing connect to your future career? You may choose to address one of the examples below from your Career Pathway, or you can choose to discuss a different example that relates to your career. Be sure to address how sensory processing impacts your chosen career. ( my career is radiography)

Descriptive Language

The post has two asighnments

1. Cite at least two examples in Lorde’s essay that show her use of metaphor, analogy, or descriptive language. Then, explain how this use of metaphor, analogy or descriptive language is used to support her theme or themes. Be sure to identify the themes you recognize in her essay.

2. What did the term "poisonous weeds" mean during the Cultural Revolution in China? How did the dominant cultural expectations for citizen behavior during Mao’s reign impact Hua’s life? More specifically, why did he seek out forbidden texts and how did not knowing how a story began or ended, or not having access to books influence his outlook on reading, on writing, on the importance of literature?

3. What connects Lorde and Hua despite their differences in age, gender, class, and race? Be specific in giving your examples.

4. Why does Barry call school a "sanctuary"? If you don’t know the rich meaning of this word, look up its historical origins. What motivates Barry to tell this story? In other words, what is her message or messages for readers? Think carefully about how Barry blends the telling of her story with narrative commentary and flash forward because your goal for the first essay is to use similar techniques.
