Reflection paper will require some additional thought about how research fits into practice. Many of us (you?) have come to social work hoping to hone your intuition and “people” skills, I know. But in today’s world, it’s not really enough to “think” that M&Ms are a great tool to get the behavior of toddlers under control, right?

So we need an ever-increasing array of skills to put into practice. Give even more thought to how our client’s demographics might have an impact on your choice of intervention. Research, anyone?

Compare the tone and attitude of the mothers to their daughters in Tillie Olsen’s “I Stand Here Ironing,” and Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use,”. What issue(s) or challenges does each mother face, and how do those issues influence each mother’s thoughts about her daughter(s) as well as the outcome of each story?
