How do differences related to race, culture, or ethnicity affect the distribution of the disease? Some possibilities are Huntington’s chorea in England, Tay Sachs among Ashkenazim Jews, sickle cell anemia in African populations, Thalassemia in Mediterranean populations.
4. What is the malaria hypothesis? What is the origin of sickle cell hemoglobin in West Africa? Is HbS spreading or receding in distribution? What is the relationship between HbS and HbC?
