A professional portfolio is becoming an increasing popular tool in the search for a career. Being able to demonstrate to potential employers that you have many of the skills required for the post can be a specific advantage.

This assignment assesses the following Learning Outcomes of this module:

2. Demonstrate and apply effective practical skills and technical knowledge in a relevant work environment with consideration to health and safety
3. Reflect upon and record the development of work activity
4. Demonstrate problem solving within the industry
5. Develop industry relationships and communicate in an appropriate, professional manner
6. Apply numeracy, communication, and Information and Communication Technology skills within a relevant work environment

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

You are required to undertake a minimum of 120 hours of relevant vocational experience for successful completion of this module. This may be provided through appropriate, simulated work environments at the college, or through placements within industry. Your module tutor will advise you of the arrangements within your subject area. During your vocational experience you are expected to develop your working skills, with particular attention to the areas of weakness you identified in assignment 1.

You are required to submit a portfolio demonstrating your effective practical skills and technical knowledge within your vocational environment. You must provide tangible evidence of your skills, which could include a series of videos, or the results of an assessment from a tutor or workplace supervisor. You should reflect on your skills and the development of these skills; for example how you developed them, whether you achieved your goals and how you will build on this in the future.

Your portfolio should feature:-

1. Introduction – What is your work placement? Where have you gained your hours? What does research say about practical learning and industry experience? During this portfolio you will reflect on your learning, what does research say about reflection?
2. Learning Log – A learning log will show how you have accumulated your hours, providing a basic description of what you have done, and where. This can go in the appendix. However, provide the reader with an overview or the benefits of logging the things you have been doing which has informed your learning. Here you might expand on your involvement at PNE, analysing and using research. This is a good chance to put some information about learning models and reflective models of learning (How will you show you have learnt from this module).
3. Skills Audit – Now the module is over, can you start to consider what you have learnt, your strengths and areas for improvement? Provide examples or learning that has taken place. Consider sections discussing challenges, networking, communication, coaching sessions, social challenges, logistical challenges and don’t forget to include health and safety….
4. Health and Safety – This is crucial in any working environment. Can you provide evidence of your working knowledge of health and safety precautions relevant to your discipline. Include risk assessments and information from the club regarding essential info such as child protection.
5. Action Plan – Moving forwards what will you do next, to enhance strengths and turn weaknesses into strengths? Be specific, and use SMART targets.
6. References – This report needs to have a large amount of research to support your ideas. Do not neglect this!
7. Appendix – This is a good place to put your raw evidence such as; session plans, risk assessments, pictures, videos, job descriptions, updated CVs, info on employers, info on courses you will attend.

Portfolios can take many formats, traditional paper based as well as electronic. You will receive specific guidance on the type of portfolio that you are to produce by your module tutor.

Order Description

Avoid international journals if possible. Some articles there have little to do with the American context (e.g. Law, labor force practice, ownership and management, government role, regulatory regime, etc.), while others suffer from a weak editorial regime. However, journals originated in countries like the U.K. and Canada are acceptable.

Order Description

Outline: A research proposal that develops a rationale, design, and project plan for an individually conducted piece of research deliverable within 400 hours. Although this research proposal will normally follow up work started on the group poster, this is not a necessary requirement – you may elect to write the proposal on a different topic if your interests change during the module. You should propose a piece of psychological research that that is impactful i.e. a piece of research that is innovative and novel or something that advances scientific knowledge in the area, or tweaks existing theories/techniques/methods.
Guidelines: Title: a concise summary of the research proposal, highlighting the proposed research. This should capture the reader’s attention, as well it should accurately reflect on the content of the proposal. Summary/abstract: explain the relevance of the proposed research in light of previous and current research. Include a summary statement of the research question(s), aim(s) and objective(s), together with a description of the methodology. State the implications of the research. Introduction/Background: the proposal should clearly and concisely explain what the proposed research will investigate, why this is important or relevant and what the anticipated benefits would be. You should explain the reasons for undertaking the research and demonstrate why the end results will be beneficial and relevant to psychological research. To do this you will need to draw on relevant (and up-to date) research to support your claims. You should include the following: – Background to the proposed research – Rationale of the proposed research
The material you cover in this section should form a coherent and logical line of argument leading to your research question(s) and aim(s)/objective(s), which should be clearly stated in the final paragraph: – Present the overarching research question(s). – Aim(s) & objective(s): specific aim(s) and/or objective(s) to answer the proposed research question(s). – Hypotheses: quantitative research only. Proposed methodology: this section of the proposal should state how the proposed research question(s) will be investigated. State the general methodology to achieve the aim(s) and/or objective(s) (e.g. specify target sample, sample size, design, materials, procedure, type of analysis). The methods and techniques to be used should be described and justified. Outline of the project timeline: the proposed research should be deliverable in 400 hours. You should provide an overview of the project timetable. Make sure this takes account of the complete research proposal from preparing study materials, ethical approval process to, collecting the data and writing up the results in report form. You can use a text, flow-charts, tables etc. Ethical considerations: general ethical considerations, possible ethical issues. Possible implications of the research: a discussion of the practical and/or theoretical implications of the proposed research. You should consider the real-world implications of the proposed research as well as how they relate to previous research and/or existing psychological theories. References: as with all other academic written work, if you cite the work of others (in-text citations). You must provide full references for each citation at the end of your proposal. Description: This will become the introductory statement in your ePortfolio. This statement should guide the reader through all parts of your portfolio and you may revise it throughout the course to incorporate new ideas. Consider the following as you write your essay:

What do you want the reader to know about you?
What do you want the reader to know about your portfolio?
Consider the sections you will be required to have in your ePortfolio: Introduction, your Statement of Professional Development and Goals, one section reflecting on each of the 5 PLOs in your program, your Plan for Future Learning, and your Conclusion. (NOTE: you will write these sections in subsequent modules of this course).
What information can you give the reader to guide him or her through the portfolio?

Length: 200-400 word essay (1-2 pages double-spaced.)

Audience: Scholars, academics, and practitioners in the field of intelligence, protection management, counterterrorism, policy, government, and strategic security.
Language: Present your project in a professional, academic way that addresses the designated audience. Be sure to present well-developed paragraphs that are free of grammatical error and that convey a logical flow of information. Sources should be used sparingly to support your main points.
