Write an Essay Using One of the Following Prompts:

*Which film adaptation gives the viewer a clearer visual picture of the world Ray Bradbury created in print? Compare visual descriptions from the short story to their representation in BOTH films, and evaluate what makes them more/less vivid.

*How do these two interpretations of the story change your perception of the original text? What new ideas did you learn or realize watching both adaptations? What differences between the two helped you come to this realization?

*What is the animated adaptation of this story able to accomplish that the live action version cannot, or vice-versa? Does it matter?

*Gender roles play an important part of this story, especially with Bradbury?s idea that the plant is like or simply is a ?woman?. How does this examination of gender roles change in the different film adaptations? What new ideas/realizations are revealed?

*Though these adaptations seem to be very different, what about them are actually very similar?

Choose one of the two topics. While many of you may choose to write a conventional paper, some of you might consider other forms of writings. In Communication in China (2008), Yuezhi Zhao argues that deploying Western public relations campaigns techniques has been commonly used by the Chinese government. Please use the insights by the author to examine how the Chinese government promotes desirable national images. To help you develop a focused project, I ask you to examine one or two media campaign cases such as the Beijing Olympics(2008), the Sichuan earthquake (2008), the milk scandal (2008) ,and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People?s Republic of China (2009).
