Ch. 11 – Style, Tone and Language, pp. 281-326, “The Things they Carried” or “A Good Man is Hard to Find” 5. Ch. 12 – Symbol, Allegory, and Myth, pp. 328-380, “The Lottery” or “Young Goodman Brown” 6. Ch. 13 – Theme, pp.381-423, and “A Worn Path” or “The Rocking-horse Winner”

• should compare covering at least 2 of the following poems (not covered in week 8) from our text: Charles Baudelaire’s “Her Hair”; Paul Verlaine “Autumn Song”; Rainer Maria Rilke “The Panther”; T.S. Eliot “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.”  Poems can be compared along the lines of theme, tone, symbolism, or a topic of your choosing.  As with the other essays in class, I want to see your ideas.  Use of Wikipedia, Sparknotes, or any similar student “cheat” site is strictly prohibited.  Plagiarism in the optional extra credit paper is the same as plagiarism in any paper and could result in failure of the
